Wednesday Hodgepodge

1.  When were you last facing an ocean? Using just ONE word, describe how you felt as you faced that ocean.
Probably start of September.  And one word?  AWESOME

2. What are three sounds you hate to hear?
whining, complaining and fighting.
Can you tell what things have been like around here lately?  These kids need to get out more!

3. This question comes to you courtesy of some real life friends. Hi real life friends! When you shop for yourself, do you try everything on in the store before buying or do you buy, try on at home, and then return what you don't like or what doesn't fit?
Believe it or not, I try everything on and only buy what fits great and what I absolutely love.
If with the younger kids, I buy whatever and hope for the best.

4. February 26th is National Pistachio Day...are you a fan of the little green nut? Do you use them in cooking and baking or prefer to eat them right out of the shell?
Love pistachios in my ice cream!
But, I have to be careful because my daughter is allergic to them!

5. When did you last have to compromise with someone?  Were you happy to reach the compromise or slightly irritated it was necessary?
Feel like I am always compromising with my teen.  I am happy, upset and crazy usually all at once.  But, I love her and pray I just don't compromise our beliefs in the process.

6.  Have you ever written a letter to an elected official? Did you get a response?
I can't remember.  I know I have called one or two for different things and they weren't able to help.

7. We 'March' into a new month at the end of this week...what's something on your March calendar guaranteed to make you smile?
I am looking forward to the kids vacation before Easter!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
The husband bought me roses for Valentine's Day.  I usually tell him not to worry because I am not a big flower person.  But, these were spectacular.  They looked white, but were a blush color inside.  I finally took a picture today after almost 2 weeks.  They were still pretty amazing.

Today is Monday {linky}

Good Morning!
A little sad having to send the kids off to school today.
Really looking forward to the summer when they are all off.

At least Easter break comes early this year.
Speaking of which, I seriously need to put up a wreath or some decorations on the window.
But of course, I wanted to make the wreath, so it lies unfinished in my closet.
Maybe tonight?

The boys worked really hard on a 100 day of school project.
100 google eyes!
It was a lot of fun.

Things for this week- organizing, sign up for baseball and softball and getting ready for baby who will be here in about 2 and a half months!

Animals- I don't get it

Disclaimer: I get why people love animals. I understand people loving pets and wanting them. I really do. When I complain about animals, I can't believe how far people take it.

Ok- so over Christmas break the kids and I watched Big Miracle , the movie based on true story of the 1988 rescue of some grey whales in Alaska.

I won't go into the movie - don't want to ruin it for anyone.

But, in Alaska the Eskimo people kill and eat whales.  It is what they do.  It is what they have always done.
But, this time some grey whales were stuck under ice.
All the greenpeace people were up in arms and wanted to save the whales.

My point in all this is not to recap the movie, but to get to one point.

Someone, a wealthy man, stepped forward and donated over 2 million dollars to save these whales!

Whales that could of fed the people of Alaska.

And 2 million dollars?

Here is my point and always my point about animals.-
-
-
-
wait for it...
-
-
There are kids starving in our own country and we use 2 million dollars for whales?????

Every time I see a dog wearing a designer jacket or pet owners that can barely feed their kids and have to buy pet food, I think of  kids.

There are so many kids that need homes or food or someone to love them.

Why are we spending money on specialty dogs or crazy things for pets?
It just doesn't add up to me.

And yes, my home is pet-free.  I just have all I can do to take care of the people under my roof without having to take care of a furry critter.
And again, I get that a lot of people enjoy the companionship of animals and like having pets.  That makes sense.
But, 2 million dollars on whales?

What do you think about animals?
I would like to know.

WIWW- 27 Weeks!

 Shirt// here
Maternity Leggings// JCP.com

This is my first WIWW (What I Wore Wednesday).
I planned on taking pics of a couple more outfits, but didn't happen.
The baby is doing great at 27 weeks and already weighs over 2 pounds!
It is exciting to know that my baby could live outside of me at this point.
But, of course, I want her to stay in as long as possible.

I am so thankful to the Lord that through being sick for so long, the baby continues to thrive and my tummy continues to grow.
God is so good.

Today is Monday {linky}

I think I am finally starting to feel better.
I regressed last week with fever, cough and shortness of breath all over again, but with a lot of rest, I feel better!
I am tired sometimes and my body is not used to doing everything I used to, but I am getting there!

The kids have off this week and I am glad.
Well, actually the little guy has school.
And the 3 older kids have off.
Go figure.

But, I am happy that they are home.

We got a lot of snow, the kids played outside, built an igloo and went sledding.
The little guy turned 5 and we made some chocolate covered strawberries!
Thanks mom for the supplies.

The little guy wanted the number "5" cake and I think it came out pretty good for a first try.

Valentine's day was great although the husband and I spent 2 hours waiting for my regular OB appt. instead of going out for dinner, which we haven't done in ages.

What about you?
What is going on in your neck of the woods?

Melt Your Own Valentine's Day Crayons

We are making Valentine's crayons again this year.  I think this is our 3rd year doing so.  It is pretty easy and gives you a chance to use up all your small, broken crayons.
Preheat the oven for 225 degrees.  I have been using the same silicone baking mold that I bought from Michaels with a coupon of course.
Break up your pieces and fill each heart cup up about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way.
We try to keep similar colors together, but it doesn't always work that way.
And glitter crayons make them look awesome, but those are hard to come by in our house.

Put them in the oven and let them back for about 20 minutes or so.  You will see no lumps left, just liquid.
Then take them out and cool for awhile.  Maybe around 30 minutes.  If you can put them in your fridge, that works great too.
When they are completely cooled, pop them out and your done!  If they weren't cooled enough and they get bent, don't worry- just re- cook them.

We have to make about 70 of them this year for 3 classes!  But, we are doing pretty well and hopefully will not be making them at the last minute, which we have done before!
We have made stars for Christmas time and want to try some other molds too.

Wrap them up or just use them for home.  They make great gifts and are a lot of fun.

Today is Monday {linky}

Well, another Monday morning.
We didn't do much over the weekend.
Our aunt came over and treated us to pizza.
My mom came over to help with some cleaning- YAY!
And my mother-in-law dropped in for a visit.

We worked on Valentine crayon hearts for gifts for the kids at school.
I will have how to make them on the blog tomorrow.

And deciding what to get my kids as little Valentine gifts.
And the little guy's birthday is coming up and we are not sure what we are doing yet.

How about you?
How was your weekend?

Our Little Girl

So excited to be having a baby girl.  Although, she has no name as of yet.  We can't wait for spring.
And then my sweet neighbor gave us a bunch of brand new baby clothes.
And we got even more excited.
And then my cousin sent the most beautiful clothes complete with tutus.

Beautiful colors and patterns.  You just can't beat having a baby girl.

And the wrapping was beautiful.  We felt a little bad unwrapping it all.

And even though this little guy wanted a brother, he is pretty excited to have a baby sister.

And this headband - to die for.  Love it.  Can't wait to see her little head in it.  Will she have brown hair or red or maybe even blonde?

We set it all up on the play table in the living room and just stared at it.  And then we packed it all up and gave it to Nana to store until Little Miss comes.
We have a tendency to lose things at our place.

Special thanks to my cousin and her husband.  They are the best.

And totally off topic- to those with babies....
Do you still use bumpers on the crib?
All the pictures I see of cribs, have no bumpers.

Are they considered a choking hazzard?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Sick and on the mend...

Well, as you can see, I have been M.I.A.
We were all sick and some of us still are.

I can't even begin to tell you.
We all got it.
Some kind of virus.
And everyone got different symptoms.
Crazy, I tell you.

And I got bronchitis.
Which, I have never had.
And I couldn't breathe.  I could not walk from one room to another.
And all I could think about was making sure my little babe in my belly was okay.

And then my mama came.
She took me to the doctor.
She took my kids to the doctor.
And she cooked and cleaned and cooked and cleaned.

And then my mother-in-law came.
And she cooked and cleaned and went food shopping for us.
And made eggs and got us drinks.  And more drinks.

I can't not even tell you how thankful I am to have my mom and my mother-in-law so close.
And all I could think was, "gosh, I hope I can do this for my kids too!"

And just when I thought we would be sick forever, I remembered all those times I wonder why someone else does not lean on the Lord.
Then it hit me....  why am I not leaning on the Lord?

And I started to think of all the blessings.
The knowledge that we would eventually get better.
That no one has any long time illnesses.
That I have great kids and another one on the way.

And a husband who puts up with us all.  :)
And we are sick, but will be okay.
And we have each other.
And family that helps us.

And 2 of my friends sent us meals and some other friends offered food.
And a bunch of friends called constantly to offer help and just to check in.

We are blessed.
I am blessed.
And we will get better.

And eventually everyone will be back to school- even the little guy who has missed weeks because we were all too sick to take him to pre-school.

And life will move on.
And according to the groundhog, we will have spring soon.

Hope you have a great weekend!
