What to Pack for the Beach?

When the kids were little, and when there was less of them, we used to head to a small beach.
It was free, close, had lifeguards and you could park right up against the sand, making it easy to pack up.
But, it really wasn't a beach, but more of a bay.
Therefore, a little dirty with little sea creatures.
Then budget cuts....
The bay didn't have a lifeguard anymore and they weren't cleaning it out as well.

Then, I made the switch.
I went to the big beach.

I said I would never do it with all 4 kids without the husband, but we needed to get to the beach during the week.

I got a pass that only costs $20 for 3 years which makes parking $5 instead of $12.
Hey, it's Long Island people- Everything is expensive!

Now, what does one pack for 4 kids on a day trip to the beach?
I am not an expert, but we pack....

sunblock, beach chairs, an umbrella,
sunglasses,
shovels, pails and other beach toys for digging holes,
boogie boards,
hats, lunch, plenty of water, snacks, maybe a book for mom....
and towels...lots of towels.

What about you? What do you pack for a day at the beach?

Today Is Monday! {linky}

Well, I am back!
Sorry, about the hiatus.
Never meant to take a break.
It just kind of happened.

Jack had a bad asthma attack last week.
I took him to a pediatric after hours office.
So thankful for them.
We were able to avoid the ER.
He got medicine and we were back on our way home.
Still praying for a complete healing of Jack's asthma.

We have been doing summer things.
Beach pictures from my little cell phone.

They love the beach and every morning I wake up to "Are we going today?"

Saw a beautiful double rainbow after a huge rainstorm at church last Wednesday night.

And made some serious cookies for some orders over the last 2 weeks.

Thinking of making these for the boys' birthdays, but serious amount of work!

Have some posting ideas and will be back later this week!

In the meantime, link up and let me know what you are doing.
Take my Today is Monday button off my sidebar so others can link up too!

Daybook Entry.... July 10, 2012

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... warm and sunny! love me some summer!

I am thinking... we need ride bikes more.

I am thankful... for the husband who works in the heat for us.

In the kitchen... chicken cutlets!

I am wearing... Old Navy capri sweats my eldest told me were cool and an Old Navy tee.

I am creating... cookies for some orders!

I am going... possibly to the library for the kids' summer reading program.

I am wondering... what to do first.

I am reading... Big Decisions (Lizzie Searches for Love) - an Amish romance. ::swoon::

I am hoping... to get this house transformed by the time my eldest comes home from camp.

I am looking forward to... my cousin's high school graduation party this weekend.

I am learning... to be on top of these kids- they have been keeping their rooms clean.

Around the house... a new shower curtain!

I am pondering... if there is still time to plant anything?

One of my favorite things...  need you ask?....  The Beach!

A few plans for the rest of the week: beach tomorrow, a baby shower, a girl's night of redefining beauty with my tween and some other fun stuff.

A peek into my day...cleaning, cooking, library, work....

Today is Monday {linky}

Woo hoo! My mom said it best yesterday when she said- "this is summer"!
We are in the midst of it.
Heat, swimming and even a little sibling whining!
Can't keep up with both the kids and the house, so either the house is clean and the kids are bored or the kids are happy and the house is a mess!
Judging by the kids happy faces, you can imagine what my house looks like.

We are trying real hard not to watch tv.
Our cable box needs a card to work- so I just pull out the card!  It has been working pretty well.

I am trying to encourage more playing and reading.

Some days are hard- I can't believe how much these kids want to watch tv.

When did I let it get this bad?

I can't seem to keep on top of anything and my junior helper left for teen camp today!
Yes, I said "TEEN" camp!
She was pretty excited and I am so happy for her.

We will try to keep it together on the homefront until she returns.

What about you?
What do you have going on?

On Being Mom

I don't know about other moms, but I can never seem to
find a balance between sacrificing for the kids and taking care of myself.

Some stuff I do without because I know I should financially,
but other times I just seem to let myself go.

Up top, there is a picture of the concealer I use
( I have dark circles under my eyes- but that is another story)-
Notice how it is dripping on to the napkin?

Yeah, it has been that way for months.
It is a mess everytime I use it, but I keep using it.
Mind you it cost me $1 at target!
You would think I would just pick up a new one, but I don't.
It never really crosses my mind to.

And those are my toenails.
I painted them a very pale lavender for Easter.
Then at the end of April, to save on time, I put a coat of blue over them.
And yep- you guessed it.
This momma hasn't had time to change it ever since.

And then on 4th of July, I thought definitely red for the toes.
I took it off and they were looking nice and clean.
And then I had so much to do- never painted the toes.

And here I sit, typing, with toes unpolished.

But, we brought some 4th of July cookies to my girlfriend's house that day.
I guess the point is-  some stuff gets done,
some doesn't.

But, why is it always my stuff that doesn't?
Any my tween daughter not only has time to paint her nails, but design them too?

As I just wrote that I thought about my mom.
I always did my nails when I was a teen.
I had a ton of stuff.
And I wonder if my mom ever did hers.
Somehow I doubt it.

And I gave away all that nail stuff as soon as I found out I was pregnant with my first.
Somehow I knew there just wouldn't be time.

And then tonight as I regret eating taco bell- not so much for the calories, but for the horrible way you feel afterwards, my son, who will be entering 2nd grade in the fall,
lost his first tooth!

So, I placed it on a taco bell napkin.
And then proceeded to clean.
And of course, lost his tooth!

Mom of the Year!!

But, God is good, we found it on that faithful brown napkin from taco bell!
In the garbage.

And tonight I will most likely forget to leave him a dollar- even though everyone in this house
knows the tooth fairy does not exist.

But, we had a great 4th of July and we have been having an awesome time at the beach!
And somehow I am hoping these kids are remembering more of the good times than the bad
or the mom with the unpolished toes.

And every night as I go to bed, I am so thankful to be mom to these 4 kids.
And one day I will have polished toes.
And maybe even clean make-up!

Today Is Monday {linky}

We had a crazy week last week.
We had VBS (vacation bible school) at church all week from 6:30 to 9.
It sounded good because it freed up our days.

But, the kids came home wired, stayed up late and then I stayed up even later.
Mornings?
We all slept in and were l-a-z-y all day.

We hit a small beach last week and have had more ice cream in the month of June than in the last 2 summers.
But, the beach is calling us- not really, but it sounded good.
This week we have the 4th at a friend's house and the beach!
And a ton of other stuff I am leaving out.

What about you?
What are your plans this week.
Link up your Monday post and get the Today is Monday button from my sidebar.
Happy Monday!
