just some thangs

i felt like posting, just so i can post in lower case.

reading other blogs in lower case and it looks like fun.

kinda crazy

that's me- living on the edge.

my brother called me a nerd today and my little sis always calls me a nerd.

i would really love to use cool slang words on my blog like holla and maybe i could call myself a baller though i am unsure what one is.

i am more likely to say roger- (ask anyone i text) or yell out "hot dog"!

so its okay if i get called a nerd.

i probably am.

nerds are cool too, ya know.

or so we tell our kids.

the little guy pulled some unmentionables out from under the bathroom sink.
and of course, wanted to know what they were.
i told him something for moms.
how do moms use them he wanted to know.

of course - i respond with something like- they just do- now put them back under the sink.

i knew we would have to teach kids about life but why are they so smart, so young.

i am sure he will be back under the sink looking for them to show his big brother soon.

maybe i will just hide them- how passive aggressive is that?

a recent "what you want to be when you grow up" day at school- and the little guy needed to be in the picture as well.

have i mentioned i have nothing done for Easter?

i have some pails to put the stuff in cuz the kids need pails for the beach anyway, but no stuff to put in them

can you believe some kids get nintendo ds' for Easter?

or so my kids tell me.

trying to keep it cheap but get them stuff they like.

stuff they like usually wins out over being cheap.

maybe i should budget- i have done well with that in the past.

well, we are off, the girls and i, to a girl's club banquet with the church.

and my older son will make a pine car derby car with his dad and the royal rangers and then i think dad is taking both boys to a Easter egg hunt and fun type thing.

and i think it is going to rain.

younger daughter had soccer practice with a different team and loved it so she will continue to play and the eldest joined the track team at school and is enjoying it.

life is good and now i will forever be in my van driving everyone to and fro.
still - its a good life.

Have a great Saturday!

7 Questions

Today I decided to link up to 7 questions with Gentri Lee just for something a little different.

First, here is a funny photo of me. I needed to work on taking a
good photo of myself for my upcoming blog makeover. Yeah, so apparently, I am not a professional photographer. Can you say blurry, silly and why don't you brush your hair?

1. What is your favorite color TO WEAR?
I seem to wear a lot of black these days- between going to the gym in black warm up pants a lot and wearing black to my part time job, and not to mention, it is supposed to be slimming.

2. You are given the choice between visiting every country and landing on the moon. Which would you choose?
Visit every country. Or maybe I would do the moon thing. Though to be honest, I do not have much of a desire to visit different countries or space travel. I only like beach vacations and I can do that on Long Island.

3. What's your favorite animal and why?
I really do not care for animals and really do not see a need for them. ...... I know I just lost like 10 followers with that comment, but I am more of a kid person.
If I had to pick, maybe a koala- cuz they are cute.

4. You are forced to do one of the fo
llowing, which would you choose? Sky dive, scuba dive, or something called world's largest rope swing?

I am going to say scuba dive because it seems somewhat safer, but I would love to try sky diving.

5. You are given the chance to go back in time. Which era would you visit?

All I can think of is Anne of Green Gables or Little House on the Prairie times. Life seems so simple on the farm. I wonder if it is like that today on the farms of the US? Simple?

6. If you had the power to remove one thing (ie: flies, mosquitos, junk food) from the earth for good- what would it be?
I do not know. If I say bugs or animals I will probably mess up that food chain nonsense.
I am going to say bad foods. Not only junk foods, but all stuff artificial! It would make it easier to choose healthier stuff if the bad stuff wasn't there. Trying to decide what the bad stuff is, is usually half the battle.

7. What is one thing you've learned from Pinterest that made you think "GENIUS"!

I love love all the organizational tips from pinterest like this giant calendar!

Looking back, maybe these questions are better suited for a "younger" blogger, but fun just the same.

How I lost Another Pound- a Nutrisystem Update

I lost another pound!

And how did I do it?
Well, I:

  • Resisted the free cookie at Stop and Shop.
  • Resisted the piece of free cookie the little guy didn't finish at Stop and Shop.
  • Moved to the higher stepper in my classes at the gym.
  • Sticking to my Nutrisystem food.
  • Whenever I possibly can, I keep moving.
Onward and upward my friends.
Or rather, downward and forward.

Yeah, I don't know.

But here I come weightloss.

What about you?
Got any tips for me?

I am on a roll now!

And have you checked out all the yummy food from Nutrisystem? You really should.

Good Afternoon!

I had a great weekend- how about you?
We went to my cousin's middle school play. It was Beauty and the Beast Jr.
It was spectacular and my girls loved it.
That is high praise coming from a mama that doesn't like plays.
The boys slept at my mom's so we were able to go.

And yesterday we spent time with my family at my little cousin's birthday.
It was a lot of fun.

Dealing with things with my girls.
My middle daughter signed up for both soccer and softball.
She had her first soccer practice and hated it.
She doesn't want to do it anymore.
I can't decide if I should let her quit.
As of now, I told her we will keep trying.

I'll let you know how it goes.

And the older one- my tween soon to be a teen.
She is great and I love her.
But, I am tired of rules.
Everything she wants to do, because "someone else has done it".
And I feel like I am always saying no.

I feel like saying, "Knock your socks off- whatever works"!

Anyone feel the same?

And unrelated to my kids- but on my mind this weekend.
The Hunger Games.

I just don't get it.
I have been told what the storyline is about.
I don't know why anyone is interested.
It sounds downright scary.
I mean I already cry over kids starving and kids without parents and parents who can't afford to feed their kids.

Now, I am supposed to scare myself silly for something that is not even true?
I'll pass.

I am trying to be understanding because so many of my friends have let their kids read the books and see the movie.

I just feel like it is up there with the Twilight series and Harry Potter. Useless.
But then again, you are talking to someone who doesn't like the Hobbit.

And I ask you- What is wrong with The Babysitter's Club?
Those were some good books!

My friend Karen gave this link to a blog with an interesting post.
Check it out if you get the chance.

And the menu for the week:

Monday- english muffin pizzas and mini tacos
Tuesday- quiche
Wednesday- Ravioli in meat and sausage sauce
Thursday- steak and chicken on grill
Friday- Meatballs and angel hair
Saturday- Burgers and french fries
Sunday- not too sure- maybe homemade mac and cheese

It's gonna be a great week- I can feel it!

the blessing of kids

I usually check out Kelly's Korner to see what kind of link-up she will have on Friday.
When I saw large families as the link-up- I thought okay not for me.
I was surprised that she counted families with 4 or more kids, large.

When I think of large families I think of my girlfriend who is pregnant with her 7th!
Pretty Amazing.

After we had our first, I thought that might be it.
I always wanted a lot of kids, but just thought it might not happen.

I mean even one kid seemed like a lot of work. Then we decided to have another. A couple of miscarriages, and some discouragement, and we had our second girl.

I thought for sure that was it and told myself to be content with the 2 girls, so imagine my shock when we found out we were pregnant again when our second child was just 14 months.
And then this surprise happened.

Fast forward to being happy with three kids and then moving into our home and thinking maybe just one more would be nice.
The husband not really feeling it, but considering it and without making any final decisions, we find out number 4 is on its way.

Having 4 kids is awesome, tiring and just plain spectacular!

A lot of people ask me if we plan on having more and the answer is no. If the husband wanted more, I would, but we are very thankful and happy to have the kids we have.

I just wish they were all babies again.

It really does go by so fast!

And my biggest dream is to one day take in foster kids that need a place to stay and be loved.

But, I think the husband plans on traveling when the kids are older and out of the house.

I guess we will figure that one out when the time comes.
But, right now, today and everyday, we are blessed.

a Non-Weigh-in Week

If you are just tuning in, a "Non-weigh in week" is code for: I-didn't-lose-an-ounce-and-don't-want-to-write-that!

But, I am feeling great and enjoying the warm weather.
It has been so warm for March and I am loving it.

I start my 4 week boot camp class at the gym next week and I am a little intimidated, but I need it and it will be good.

I have been having salad with the Nutrisystem red beans and rice for lunch and love it. It is one of those meals you can just eat every day and still like it.

The shakes are really good too- like I have told you before.
I am so glad Nutrisystem came out with the shakes.
I had been looking into trying a certain brand and now I don't have to because it is delivered to my door with my food order.
What is better than that?

And while we are on the topic, I still can't believe I am on Nutrisystem! I wanted it for so long, seeing it on TV and even on a home shopping channel.
I just knew it would work and now I have my chance.
I will succeed.
Keep watching and reading...
Until then...

Monday Monday

Happy St. Paddy's Day- a little late.
We had a very busy weekend - how about you?

It seemed to start on Thursday.
The middles had half a day on both Thursday and Friday (for parent teacher conferences) which is always nice.
I saw both of their teachers on Thursday and they had wonderful things to say and both kids are doing very well.

Then Thursday night the husband went to a hockey game, so we had nachos for dinner- which the kids loved and then surprise- Shamrock shakes from McDonalds-
I saw the commercial and knew we had to give them a try!

Needless to say- they were delicious.

On Saturday, I put the corned beef in the crockpot all day- delicious!
It was so tender.
I think I finally did a good job.
The irish soda bread- different story.
Although not so bad.
We played outside on Sunday- the oldest is trying out for school softball, so we practiced. And the middles start baseball and softball soon- with one of them playing soccer as well.
I feel a lot of driving to and from games and practices this season.
But happy to do it in the warm weather.

For a menu this week, I am definitely behind.
Looks like I will be wandering the stores today trying to get some ideas.
So dangerous.
I usually wind up spending too much money this way.
I will post my menu tonight.

Hope you are having a great morning.
Happy Monday.

Ta-Da!!- 2 pounds: A Nutrisystem Update

So, imagine my surprise, when I went to the gym yesterday morning and saw-
yep, that's right....
A 2 pound weight loss!!!

I was so excited and I can't believe the energy it gave me to know I had lost 2 pounds!

Sticking to the Nutrisystem meals, drinking the shakes and no eating after dinner is paying off.
Big time!
2 pounds!

And with spring and warmer weather here- I feel more encouraged.
I can go outside- walk, possibly even go bike riding.
And hopefully, I will be in a single digit bathing suit this summer.
And after a recent discussion with my mother- a promise of a new wardrobe if I get to a certain size.
Now that is motivation!
We were having that whole why buy clothes when you are losing weight conversation.
I always say I am not buying anything till I lose the weight and she counters- just buy what you need.
And then she added, "If you lose the weight, I will buy you a new wardrobe!"
Thanks mom, definitely holding you to it! :)

And I almost forgot- Nutrisystem has bagels now- they are really good.

So, although I am not back to the weight I was in January yet, I am getting there and expect a weight loss from here on out!!

Hello Monday!

First things first: I am saying goodbye to the Friday follow. It is just one of those things that has died out.
I am not exactly sure what is the deal with the GFC follower thing, but no one seems interested in linking up anymore.
And it is nice not to have the pressure of having to post it every Thursday night for Friday.
Maybe in the future I will have another link-up.

We spent this weekend doing many things- surprise, surprise.

On Friday night, I went to a girlfriend's house.
She had a wine and cheese night.
Though I didn't have any wine or cheese, there was some great dip and characters and the best white chocolate I have ever tasted from a specialty store.
Most of all, I had fun talking to friends I haven't seen in years from high school. One girl I have known since elementary school.
I stayed out way too late and have been pretty tired and maybe even a little cranky since.

Saturday, I went to work and then did some bathing suit shopping with my eldest.
We have been doing this for weeks now.
I know it may seem early, but it is seriously hard to find modest tankinis.
Score- we finally found one.
And now to find one more, so she has two.
We are serious beach people.

And then Sunday.
When procrastination reared its ugly head again.
Science fair projects.
The middles decided they both wanted to do them and even though they aren't mandatory, I
thought it was great.

So, we spent the whole day working on them and they are finished, because you know they are due today!
More about those later.
*special thanks to my good friend and neighbor who has things like photo paper and a spare roll of double stick tape! I would of had to leave the house and take more time to do the projects without her.

Have to food shop today and I really don't have a good plan for what we are going to have.

Monday- leftover lasagna
Tuesday- crockpot chili
Wednesday- homemade (purchased at Italian food store) raviolis with sauce.
Thursday- nachos with all the fixins'
Friday- steak on the grill
Saturday-corned beef and cabbage- need to get recipe from bff to cook in the crockpot- feel like I mess this one up a lot.
Sunday- chicken penne a la vodka

*I added all the ones in purple at 2 pm today after going shopping!

Happy Monday!

Inspiration: Spring

From one of my favorite cartoons, Little Bill:
"Spring is here,
Spring is here,
It's the best time of the year!"

I love spring! Basically because it moves us into summer and you know, Mama loves the beach!
But,even when I was in college I always did better spring semester over fall.
As spring approaches we start to remove our coats, pull out the sunglasses (ok- granted some of you wear sunglasses in the winter too, but not me) and just enjoy being outside more.

I have to get more gas for the BBQ, because I love to make as many dinners as I can outdoors.

I definitely have some "spring" cleaning to do. Maybe I will start with my desk?

And I really want to paint.
Something white for the living room and a light blue for my room.
All in good time.

What do you have planned for spring?

Oh yeah, got to change the winter pocketbook to the spring/summer one.

Good News, Bad News- A Nutrisystem Update

So, good news first:
I am enjoying my latest order.
I love love the Nutrisystem shakes- I wasn't crazy about them before but, I am thinking I wasn't shaking them up correctly.
Now they are great.
I can only attest to the vanilla and strawberry- delish.
I am sure the coffee and chocolate are great as well- just not my thing.

I am hyped and doing well in my gym classes and pushing myself harder.
I am not eating at night and it is getting easier.

I let the lady who works at the gym measure me. It has motivated me a lot.

Bad news:
I let the lady who works at the gym measure me! And it was a little shocking and basically not how I see myself.
Dare I say it and I said I wasn't going to, but for the purpose of being open and honest, I have to tell you:
My thigh measurement is probably some girl's waist size.

Go ahead, say not possible.

Oh, but it is.

So maybe momentarily bummed.
I have a long road ahead of me.
But I am confident I can do it.

So, I press on.
What about you?
Are you on a weight loss journey?
If so, I would love to hear about it.

Is It Really Monday?

Thought I would add a picture for the sake of adding a picture. This was over the summer- our park has mini-trains and the kids love to ride them. They even have Thomas the train, but there is a long wait for him.

So, a lot to do today.
How about you?
Really working on going to the grocery store only once a week.
Monday is shopping day.

Our Menu this week:
Monday- Burgers, onion rings
Tuesday- Chicken Cutlets
Wednesday- loin of pork
Thursday-Steak sandwhiches
Saturday- lasagna
Sunday- leftovers

Part of my shopping once a week is making a menu that we stick to, so I know exactly what I need at the store.
And Tuesday has to be something in the crockpot or something that I can make ahead of time because it is my night to work.
Sides for a lot of these meals can be done on the fly.
I am a big fan of homemade mac and cheese or homemade potato salad.
And don't forget, this menu as to be approved by the main man ahead of time. After all, he is the one paying for it! tee hee hee.

I am also getting my haircut- it is seriously long.
I am going to keep the length, but get some layers cut in.

But to the gym first.
Did better with eating this weekend- yay!
Although the husband did some sabotaging with munchkins from Dunkin' Donuts- especially the kind with the jelly in them. ::swoon::

Got some paint swatches up on the walls.
Maybe some painting soon?
I guess we will see if I can keep up with the laundry and dishes and then we will talk paint- lol

Happy Monday!

This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

Home Depot Kids Workshop- Hey, it's Free!

So, I know I have told you but ... the first Saturday of the month is the Home Depot Kids Workshop. Kids can make a craft with wood and sometimes paint it.
So, on Saturday we took our local Home Depot by storm. Me, the 3 youngest and 2 of their friends headed in. And everyone in Home Depot had something to say. "Wow, make sure you don't lose any." Hardy har har, people. Like no one else in this town has a bunch of kids with them.

When signing the kids in, I jokingly told the lady, "Okay, I will see you in an hour". She was not amused. Maybe a little nervous that I was serious.

The kids put on their home depot aprons that the store lets them keep and got to work. I tried to help all of them.

And they did an excellent job.
Except, I think I forgot to help this little guy, so he took it upon himself.
Not too shabby.

Next workshop- April 7th- a bird feeder.
See you there.

Daybook Entry- March 2, 2012

Outside my window... dark, wet, damp.

I am thinking... Yay, baby! It's Friday!

I am thankful... for my home and the husband who works hard for it.

In the kitchen... Penne a la vodka with chicken tonight- we made banana muffins and pudding pie last night.

I am wearing... Mismatched pjs- when will I stop that? soooo attractive.

I am creating... a bucket list of things we want to do in 2012. So many of the things seem to cost money!

I am going... to the home depot kids workshop tomorrow. gym today.

I am wondering... when did I go from 17 to 30 something? And where are all our babies in diapers?

I am reading... Unstuff by Michael and Hayley Dimarco- almost done- Next up--- One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp.

I am hoping... I get a lot accomplished today.

I am looking forward to... the weekend and then Easter break and then summer vacation. Love when the kids are home and our schedule is not so strict.

I am learning... to have more patience with the kids and to cut down on my sarcasm.

Around the house... why do we have so much stuff?

I am pondering... how to balance what is important. Like the younger kids would like to go to build a bear- we took the eldest and they want to try it out- but is it right to buy them overpriced stuffed animals when we have too many to begin with? Should we buy them yet another one when there are kids who won't get to eat 3 meals today? And then I guess we could think that way about anything we buy them.

A favorite quote for today... While buying a 3 pack of kielbasa at sams, the little guy asked how many people live in our house- when I told him 6, he replied, "Oh, so we can't have seconds, mom?"

One of my favorite things... seeing my son who I never thought would like reading, sit up in is bed at night to read a book with a flashlight- beautiful.

A few plans for the rest of the week... declutter, get organized with a stricter eating plan- read all Nutrisystem material.

A recent pic....

Linking up to The Simple Woman's Daybook.

Friday Follow With The Chatty Mommy...

Hey Everyone!
How's it going?
Not much around here.
Took the little guy to go check out a pre-school he might go to next year.
The nice teacher asked him if he was coming- he shook his head no.
The nice teacher asked him if he liked the pre-school- he shook his head no.

What a little gem- lol.

We went to the gym today and the library program too.
It was a good day and a good week.
Already counting down the days till the kids have off for Easter break.
Can't wait.
Have spent too much time this week wondering where the time went and how come I can't get more things done.

I think I might have to bite the bullet and become a list maker like my mom.

Got any good plans for the weekend?

On to the follow:

1. You must follow TCM.

2. Link your blog with the linky.

3. Put the Friday follow button (it can be found down in my sidebar) somewhere in your post.

4. Visit as many blogs and follow as many as you can.

5. Family friendly only and HAVE FUN!
