When I Think of Vintage...

I am not a big clothes person. I mean I like clothes, but I am not clothes savvy. But, when I saw this Christian Dior top at a thrift store, I knew someone might like it

and I thought it might be vintage. I checked it out on the ebay boards and they confirmed it for me.
I tried to sell it a couple of times on ebay. I paid $7.99 for it about 3 years ago and it has been in my closet since then.
I never found the right buyer for it.
Well, I listed it again.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... dark and calm night

I am thinking... how will I get everything done?

I am thankful... for lemonade/iced tea.

From the learning rooms... was I supposed to teach them something this week?

In the kitchen... dishes leftover from chicken cutlets and fried green tomatoes.

I am wearing... my new tee shirt I love and jeans.

I am creating... things for my daughter's birthday.

I am going... to the beach tomorrow- shocker I know.

I am wondering... Will these kids get to bed on time for school next week?

I am reading... literature on a class I am starting to teach at church.

I am hoping... that I get organized and get everything done.

I am looking forward to... sleeping in my bed.

I am hearing... the girls watching a late movie- Tinkerbell.

Around the house... it is pretty messy and unorganized.

I am pondering... and rethinking my motives for doing things.

One of my favorite things... coconut italian ice!

A few plans for the rest of the week: beach, visit the kids' elementary school, get paperwork at doctor's office, babysit, clean yard from hurricane, get ready for party....

At Holtsville Ecology Site

Our little cousin was out last week and we tried to pack the week with fun things for her to do on the island.
We wanted to take her to the "zoo" which is a local ecology site that I have probably mentioned before.
It was one of those crazy days that we had too much to do. So, by the time we left, we had 1 hour to spend at the zoo and then had to pick up my mil from work, eat dinner and get out to church.
I think the kids still had a great time.

We were too late to get goat feed from the machines, but there was some left on the railings that we fed them. I didn't have to use those quarters that I stole, I mean got from my husband after all.

Our cousin was so happy, she decided to kiss the goats. They seemed to like it. Though while antibacterializing, I forgot to do her lips.

We saw an emu and I only knew it was one from a Wiggles song. Gosh, those guys must be rich!

And have no idea what these birds are, but love their print.

The picture we will give to our cousin's mom to show that she had a good time and maybe she will forget to tell her about all the crazy things my kids do.

I have mentioned this before, but this bear is only separated from us by chainlink!!!

Somewhere before this playground shot, we got Mister Softee, but I was so busy making sure no one dropped anything that I didn't get any pictures.

The playground was fun, but a little nerve-racking. One of those, "where's so and so" moments.

Nutrisystem- Still Going!

Let's just cut to the chase!
I lost another 2 pounds this week, making it a total of 7 pounds so far!
I am very excited.
But a little hard on myself.

I had some slip- ups.

I did get back on my treadmill and have been doing 2 miles every morning and 2 miles every night.
This has been hard, but worth it.
I started last Sunday night (the 21st) and have been steady except for 2 times I missed while being evacuated.

I thought I would of lost more, but I made some bad food decisions.
I know where I messed up.

I need to make sure I eat enough.
This is important because sometimes I eat very little so I can drop this weight only to crash and wind up starving at night which is the worse time to eat.


I need to stick to the Nutrisystem food because it works.
And then the hurricane happened and I let myself come off the Nutrisystem food.
Looking back, I had a decent amount of choices to choose from, and could of eaten a ot of different things and some fruit during our power outage.
But I went straight for comfort food, my old time nemesis- the bagel to name one.

So this week, continuing my treadmill walking and sticking to the plan, I know I will lose more weight next week.

We're Home, we're fine, Praise The Lord!

All the stuff we packed for the less than 24 hour stay on my mom's house.

The brush and leaves on our lawn.

there was just so much news coverage on hurricane irene.
i am not a worrier, my mom's not much of a worrier.
but, i have to confess, i was a wee bit worried this time.
not while we were packing.
not while we planned.
but early this morning, i worried.
what would i do?
would we really have to stand in doorways?
which kid would i hold with me?
is the husband ok staying at the house himself?
does he need me?
does he know that God's in control?
does he need me to tell him?
and then the power went out.
gosh it's hot without ac.
should i put a flashlight in the room so the kids don't get scared?
will they be nervous?
will a window crack?

and then 7 am rolled around and the kids woke up and horsed around
and prayed on their own.
they prayed for their dad and that the storm wouldn't make a tree fall on the house
and that everyone would be okay and the blackout wouldn't last.

And we are fine and I should of done what they did first instead of worrying.

We are back home- our yard is covered with leaves and small branches, but no big deal.
And all my "stuff" in the basement is fine- but maybe I would of been better off with it getting ruined, so I would be forced to declutter.

And the husband is fine.
He had chosen to stay home to be with the house.
Or maybe he knew my mom doesn't have cable and me, my mom and 5 kids (our little cousin has been staying with us) would of driven him crazy.
But when the hurricane was over, he called, said come home....
He was hungry!!

Hurricane And Evacuation Update

Well, Hurricane Irene is scheduled to hit Long Island around 8 am on Sunday morning.
We have been put under a mandatory evacuation and were supposed to leave by 8 this morning.
But, if you know me, you know how I operate and I am still packing!
We are going to my mom's house about 2 miles away.
The kids are excited and feel the whole thing is an adventure.
I don't want to lose all the "stuff" I have in my basement, but I guess there are far worse things in life.
I straightened up the basement last night. It is amazing how I have been putting the chore off for months, but under the threat of a hurricane, the job got done in 45 minutes.
Typical me.
I am praying for anyone else who has been touched by the hurricane or if it is about to hit your area.
I will try to blog after hurricane to let you know how we made out.
Until then:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Nutrisystem- This Might Just Work!!

Hi everyone!
I am down 2 more this morning, for a total of 5 pounds lost so far.
I finally hit the treadmill last night and early this morning.
I did 2 miles each time, but this time I did it on an incline.
Thanks Sherry!
It was very difficult, but worth it.
Nutrisystem is getting easier.
I love the chicken quesadilla for lunch and the egg and bean burrito for breakfast.
Simply Delish!

I want to try and juice some veggies and fruits this week - ya know, something new and something to fill my belly during the day.

I'll keep you posted on that.

And I realized I completely forgot to fill out a profile on the Nutrisystem website and need to do that.
I want to see what kind of tips they have on the site and what assistance they offer.

Need Advice- Let Me Know What You Think....

OK, sorry if I worried you.
It's not that big of a deal.
But, the little guy still sucks his thumb.

And now he is over 3.
He is potty trained - woo hoo!
But sucking his thumb more than ever.

So, the other day he fell off of his cozy coupe (ya know the orange and yellow car you drive Flintstone style) at his nana's. Yes, his sister was driving him around on the top. No one is sure why- but it's what happened. No one was hurt, but the little guy skinned his thumb pretty bad.

On goes gauze and some band-aids.
Which thumb you might ask?

The little guy said, "Oh, it's the thumb I suck".

So, we have noticed with the band-aid on, he doesn't suck his thumb.

His thumb healed in a couple of days, but I have been putting a clean band-aid on every night so he stops sucking his thumb all together.

I figure it usually takes about 21 days to break a habit.

But he has been cranky.

Does he need to soothe himself?
Should I just let him suck his thumb until he decides to stop?

I feel bad.
Part of me wants to stop him and get it over with and another part of me feels like he needs to do it and I just leave it and him alone.

What do you think?
Please feel free to weigh in whether you have no kids or 19 kids (that's for Michelle Duggar in case she stops by my blog- hey, ya never know).

Seriously, what would you do?

This is my dad's pool and boy, it is grand. And the next best thing to having one ourselves.


And believe me, the kids ask for one!

There is a diving board, a slide, a basketball net over the pool and lots of pool toys and floats.

Did I mention it is heated?

And the kids are getting better and better at swimming.

And if they get bored of the pool there is plenty of yard to run around in.

The kids call my Dad, Abuelo, spanish for Grandpa, and they love to go to Abuelo's house in the summer!

And mom loves having people in our family with pools because so we don't have to get one.

Doing well. Still healing from my surgery. The kids are trying to help out.
(sometimes)
We hit the beach, my dad's pool and did some back to school shopping this week.

But I got a tween who wants to hit the mall, a son who wants sneakers, a daughter who wants a very short haircut (mama likes it long) and a little guy who wants school supplies even though he is not going to school.
I am in trouble. (wink)

I was touched when the girls decided to start public school with these Dayspring notebooks that have scripture on them. And of course, they were extra, but who can mess with scripture?
Oh and the Vera Bradley Lunch tote? I'm not sure how that got in there. Must of been on my own personal back to school list. Ya know, even though I am a SAHM, maybe I needed a lunch tote too- or so I'll tell the husband. (wink)
**Note- I didn't actually get this Vera lunch bag- just like it.**

What has the world come to, that my son was adamant that he have "hanatizer" in his backpack? Apparently, all the cool kids are bringing it. Who am I to mess with clean?

And you know I love to stock up on crayola! They were only 20 cents last year, up to 40 cents this year. What gives, Walmart?
A Justice backpack for the younger daughter. No more character backpacks. I love it but a little sad to pass up Barbie and Hello Kitty this year.

And last but not least, my younger daughter just had to have these adorable lalaloopsy pencil toppers. She even offered to share with her older sister, who thought it not wise to start middle school with doll pencil toppers.
I am not even sure if they are actual erasers and if not, serve no purpose.
But boy, they sure are cute!
