Decorating Skills that Will Make You Green With Envy

I love Christmas time. I love Christmas. And I do love to have decorations up- lots of them. But, alas, I am just not that good at it. I do try and this year, we all worked hard to get the decorations up early. Not day-after-Thanksgiving early, but at least December 1st early.

Our front door with scotch taped wrapping paper and my favorite wreath I bought on clearance at Michaels a number of years ago.

Our front windows. The kids did a great job on the snowflakes and since we used all the colored lights on the tree, I used the icicle lights that we opted not to hang on the house, in the window.
Some of us enjoy them, some of us, not so much. (ahem, cough, cough,...... the husband)

Our tree! This year, we went fake! This is the first time any of us, our whole lives, have had a fake tree and so far, I am loving it! Our aunt wasn't setting hers up this year and told us to use it and we went for it. Thanks Aunt! Hello no watering, no drying out, no Christmas tree needles!

Some homemade treasures!

My sorry excuse for a way to hang Christmas cards. Half of them are not even up yet.

The back of our door- more wrapping paper!

Our homemade stockings hung from the archway with care, just low enough to constantly hit the husband's head!

And finally- our dream purchase. The younger daughter has been complaining that we do not have inflatables on our front lawn. The husband found this "Santa coming out of an outhouse" and truthfully I love it, but no plans to buy it! I also explained to my daughter that if she wanted to give up her presents and buy inflatables instead, we would do that.
Funny, she hasn't complained since!

How are you decorating this year?

  2. How could you not like lights in windows? And I like your solution to hanging stockings! We don't have a mantel, but that would be an easy (and removable) way to hang them.

  3. Oh my gosh! You NEED the Santa coming out of an outhouse inflatable!

Everything looks really lovely. We don't have our tree up this year and we always do a live one too. But, your plug for the fake tree is very compelling!

My sister in law was telling me you can buy these scented sticks that you hang from your fake tree that make it smell just like a real one too.
