What's Up With Prices?!?

Yeah, so that's me above.
Minus the skirt- I am totally one of those mom's who wears sweat outfits and probably shouldn't.
I heard Tim Gunn (style guide and from the show, Project Runway) say that women shouldn't wear sweat outfits unless going to gym.
Alas, I have failed the style code again.
But I digress...

Have you seen the price of food?
I remember paying so much less for so much more.
So, next week, I would like to see what you are paying for food.
Next Monday, a week from today, I will post the cost of:
  • a gallon of regular gas
  • a gallon of milk
  • a box of 4 sticks of butter
  • a dozen eggs
  • a loaf of bread
  • a bunch of bananas.

As most of you know, I live on Long Island, but I would love to know what you are paying for these things where you live.
I threw in the gallon of gas, because it is relevant. I used to pay 99 cents a gallon when I first started driving. It is amazing how much it has gone up in the 15 years since then. This also limits me going to cheaper places to buy food.
I often ask myself, "Is it worth going to Sams and using the gas to save $ on food?"

And if you live on Long Island too- great - I want to see what you are paying- maybe you shop at a better store than I do?

I will post my findings next week, and you can leave yours in the comment section so we can compare.

  1. I am going to the store tonight and will check out the prices. I'm curious now!! Oh! and I too paid .99 for a gallon of gas when I began driving too!

  2. Hello,
Love the blog, especially your post about food prices. I am in Rochester, NY and have seen food and fuel prices increase dramatically but our income is actually down. Getting scary out there. I have started a blog myself and would love for you to see it. Comments from a successful blogger like you would be important to me. Thanks for the great blog and I will visit again.

  3. I am amazed at the cost of food - real food. I ws watching some documentary and they asked a family why they eat fast food so much - "because a hamburger is $1 and so is a pear...and the hamburger fills me up." I paraphrased - it is just backwards - all of it. I remember gas being 1.50 or so. It will $10 when my kids drive!

  4. I totally relate to this. We moved to a new part of the country in August and I thought it was just the prices here were higher. I think it might be that food prices have gone up in general. I'll try to come back and post my prices, but I'll probably forget!! Here's what I remember off the top of my head for PIttsburgh, PA:
    $3. 49 - one gallon of gas
$4.62 - a gallon of WALMART milk!! hello? $5.99 for organic milk.
    $3.99 - pound of butter
$3.99 - organic eggs (I have to go to another grocer for this; at my main grocer, they are $4.99)
$4.62 - Brownbread/Arnold Bread with no high fructose corn syrup. (I buy in builk when it is BOGO which is about once a month)
    54 cents/lb. - bananas

Hey! Thanks for dropping by- I love comments and read them all!
