Friday Follow With The Chatty Mommy...

Officer in Training- Don't all officers wear crocs?

So, how are you?
My week was good and fast.
I am so thankful my kids' birthday parties are over until November. Last weekend was exhausting. Looking forward to this weekend even though we have some stuff to do.
I am so happy the kids have an extra 2 days off this week for Rosh Shannah.
This public school thing might suit us after all.

Just wanted to remind you about this giveaway with super low entries. Go and enter.

Lunch Wars- A Book Review

And I had no idea.

Those were the 2 most prevalent thoughts in my head as I read this book.
I thought this would easily be a book that I would read and forget about.
Instead, I have written my name on the inside cover, expecting to lend it to my friends and read it again myself.

Now that the kids are in public school, this book has come at a perfect time.
I have been letting them buy lunch and kind of knew that they weren't the best lunches, but I really wasn't asking the right questions.

And quite frankly, forget school lunch!
What am I really feeding these kids?

Amy Kalafa, in her book, Lunch Wars, has opened my eyes wide to things I thought I knew about before.
About the high fructose corn syrup, the gmo's and a ton of other toxic sludge the government has deemed "okay".

Kalafa gives real examples of chefs in schools across the country changing the way their school eats.
She gives examples of what a state subsidizes for school lunch and what is then affordable for that school. Believe me, it's not much.
A lot of schools are basically forced to serve out of the box microwaveable meals.

Kalafa talks about the benefits of serving locally grown vegetables.
While I applaud everything she writes about in Lunch Wars, I am not exactly ready to take on my public school's cafeteria.

I am, however, going to see what I can change in the foods I feed my own kids.
Definitely a book worth reading.

This was a paid review for BlogHer Book Club but the opinions expressed are my own

Feels Like I'm Fallin' For Fall Wreath

So, the title is totally from a song on Nick Jr.
But, I needed to get my spring/summer wreath off of the door and and a new fall wreath.
So, rather than save the wreath on my door- I cut off all the yarn and felt roses I made last time.
Maybe not the best decision, but that's how I roll.

Then I was able to use the same foam wreath instead of buying a new one. It is good I don't have a craft store closer than 20 minutes, I would be toast.

I bought some twine at a local dollar store for, yep you guessed it, a dollar. But I ran out and had to switch to some really rough twine.

I tied a knot of twine around the wreath and just started winding around and around. And around. When adding the second twine, I tied the 2 together and just continued winding.

I was pretty happy with the over all look. Winding the twine took some time and didn't come out so neat, but it just added to the charm.

This is my workspace- notice the glitter glue in the lower right hand corner from a previous craft project.

I printed up a template I got off of google images of small fall leaves and traced them onto some felt scraps I had and cut them out.

I rolled up some orange felt and secured it with some tacky glue.

I followed this tutorial on making fabric flowers and used this template I free-handed to make the yellow and dark red flowers.
I laid all my items out and made sure I liked them before I started to hot glue them.

Here are my results- pretty happy with it, seeing how it only cost me a buck!
I need to add something to hang it and maybe a little something more to make it nicer.
I post a picture of it later today.

Happy DIY'ing.

P.S.- I need to mention that while making this wreath with my trusty {cheap} hot glue gun, I pretty much got glue all over my desk and maybe on my keyboard.

Does anyone know where to purchase a glue gun that you do not have to push the next glue stick in with your teeth?

Nutrisystem- Recap

So, I have decided not to weigh myself today- it was just too stressful after a crazy weekend.
I had the church sleepover and then a party for my son's friends on Saturday and a family party for my son and daughter on Sunday.
I was exhausted and didn't always eat like I should of.

I do not think I gained weight, but was getting stressed thinking what that number would be.
I will definitely weigh myself next week.

But, I did want to tell you how it has been going.

Surprisingly, I like the food a lot.
Most things are really tasty.
The portions are somewhat small, but what did I expect?- it's a weight loss plan.

I like to take whatever I have for lunch, heat it up and put it over salad.
This can work well with soup or my favorite- red beans and rice.

Sometimes I tell myself I will just make myself smaller portions with the food I am making from the kids.

But, I need the nutrisystem. It keeps my honest. I can't open 2 dinner meals at dinner- everyone would notice.
But I really want to sometimes.

Nutrisystem's portions are the amount I need to be eating.
I didn't get to this weight by making myself small portions.

Drinking water has really helped me a lot. It keeps me full.

And I really like the peanut butter cookies and they have white chocolate ones too!
Oh, and for you chocolate loving folks- Nutrisystem has plenty of that!

Plans for this week:
-Get to bed earlier- need the sleep, won't snack and will have energy for treadmill.
-Consistency with water.
-Try to get out and walk or bike ride.
-Plan what I am eating before I get hungry.

Remember- 8 lbs so far. A lot more to go. I will be weighing in next week.
Until then...

Happy Birthday to The Kid Born in The Bathroom!

My son's wonderful teacher allowed me to come in to the class to serve up some birthday cupcakes. I really had fun meeting all the kids.

The little guy came with me and even got his own visitor pass.
Need I tell you, he was thrilled.

Do you send your kid into school and wonder what they do? Well, apparently, mine unbuttons his shirt and lets his tank show- he claimed it was hot!

These are the cupcakes I brought in for the class. They do not allow home baked goods because they need a nutritional label and worry about the kids with allergies. Totally understandable. The only place to go for 25 cupcakes cheap?
Sams club- they were about $13 and change for 30.
The kids loved them and really enjoyed the rings that were stuck in each cupcake.

I was so scared they would all want spiderman rings and not the spider ones, that I almost asked sams if I could buy extra.
Glad I didn't - a lot of them wanted the spider ones.
I over-analyze everything.

Oh and if you haven't read the story before Jack really was born in my bathroom.
You can read about it here.

Hope your Monday is off to a great start!

Oh yeah- Check out this awesome giveaway here.

A Church Sleepover???

Yes, you heard me right! Me and the girls slept at the church last night!!
And get this...
we all (including me) had a good time.
I have to say, I usually ere on the "protective" side and would of never let my girls sleep at the church without me, but now after experiencing it for myself- I think I could of let them go- even without me.

It was about 40 girls from 5 to 15 from our girl's club (formerly called Missionettes- a name I liked better- just sayin) at church and since I teach now, I was invited to sleepover too.

They brought a ton of stuff for our 9pm to 9am extravaganza.
And our theme was Thembe, Africa and I did the devotion and was way nervous, but it worked out well.

We had a tour guide, "Panama Jane", who was amazing with kids as were all the other teachers.

The kids made masks to go along with the theme.

This was fun along with snacks, games, worship, devotion and plenty of time to run around.
The girls loved to be all together.
And thanks for the poll from my last post. I didn't wear hair rollers and my daughter was happy!

And after being with this bunch, I will definitely be there again next year.
Except next year, this mama will be buying a blow-up mattress.
Apparently, our church basement has cement under it.
Yeah, I didn't know either. wink.
Cement is hard and my back was bad.
I guess I am getting old.
Next year, Gadget, next year. (that was an Inspector Gadget reference in case you were lost.)

Enjoy what is left of the weekend!

**P.S.- The husband was alone with the boys- this included a late night, chocolate milk, a cupcake, breakfast out and 5 calls to me about a lost toothbrush, just not in that order.

Not too shabby, I'd say.

Friday Follow With The Chatty Mommy...

What a crazy week!
How 'bout you?
We are still getting used to school, field hockey, Wednesday night teaching at church (okay that last one is me) and everything else that goes along with the fall time.

We had a birthday this week. It was a little over 6 years that this happened and our son was born.
Can't believe how fast time goes.
We are planning for 2 parties for the weekend - one friends, one family- I know crazy again
Pray for me- Tomorrow night I sleep over at the church with a ton of missionettes girls including my own.
It seemed like such a good idea a month ago.

But I am taking a poll and I need your help.

Should I wear foam rollers in my hair for the sleepover and completely embarrass my daughter or should I refrain?

I mean it is a sleepover.
Just leave your opinion in the comment section, pretty please.
Rollers or not?

What I Love Wednesday (WILW)- Aprons

So, I need an apron...
These are some I love.
I know, they are all pretty similar, but so cute. Scroll down for my funny apron story.

The other day while cooking, it occurred to me, that I never wear my regular clothes to cook. I am always afraid I will mess them up. So I wear scrubby clothes and try to change before the husband comes home.
This works sometimes, but sometimes I am busted wearing holy sweat capris and an old tee.
I need an apron I thought!
Then I think of all the pretty ones I have seen on etsy.
I know I will buy one or beg my mom to make one for me because my sewing skills are definitely lacking.
I will wear it when the husband comes home and he will be surprised.
On this particular day, the husband went to the neighbors to pick up our daughter after she played with her friend and do you know what he told me?
"Hey, you know she (our neighbor) was wearing an apron? I didn't know people still wear those."
What was I left to say?
"Yeah, I know (which of course, I didn't know), I was just thinking about getting one."
And once again, he just looked at me.

Forget it now.
Ahhh, the best plans...
Do you have an apron?

"Not Me" Monday

This is an old classic from Mckmama- an uber mommy blogger.
I think I might of done it once or twice back in the day.
So, here goes.

I did not tell the kids to take everything out of their toy box and bookshelves with great plans to re-organize and never do it because of lack of time!

I did not have my wonderful mother come over here and help me clean because I needed a good jump start.

I did not eat 2 Nutrisystem cookies a couple of nights this week, when they are only packaged for one snack per night.

I did not get ready for church and found out I had no underwear clean and had to wear big granny panties that I had from pregnancy.

I did not threaten to pour water on the little guy when he almost fell asleep too close to bedtime.

I did not spend most of the week with a sloppy bun in the back of my head because I had no time to brush out my hair.

I did not run on the treadmill this morning and barely make the kids' bus.

I did not do my son's reading this morning after we had all weekend to do it.

And finally, I did not hear my daughter tell my sister that her mom constantly texts.

No not me.

Anything you "didn't" do this week?

Nutrisystem- I'm Back!

One Pound Baby!
One pound and I'm back.

I am now up to a grand total of 8 pounds lost so far!

I drank a lot more water.

I resisted buying a white chocolate kitkat and a white chocolate reeses. This is monumental for me because those babies are hard to find, but I walked away.

I was on the treadmill more.

And I got invited to a wedding and want to look my best, so I am focused on that!

I love the Nutrisystem vanilla ice cream with caramel- very tasty.
I have been working on adding a lot of vegetables to everything and eating a lot of salad!

I am reading a new book about health and trying to talk the husband into the meals I make for him and the kids being healthier too.

He's listening.
This Nutrisystem lifestyle might just mean a change for everyone.

Until next week my friends.
Think major poundage and inches coming off!

Friday Follow With The Chatty Mommy...

What a week!
We had our son's "meet the teacher night" on Monday.
Very nice teacher, has been teaching in the same classroom for 20 years.
The husband was awesome and went to our younger daughter's class for "meet the teacher" on Wednesday when I was teaching my missionettes class at church (I'll tell you more about that later).
Our daughter's teacher is pretty (saw a picture) and young and seems really sweet.

Then tonight off to the middle school to meet all of my daughter's teachers.
What a time warp.
The husband couldn't believe it was about 21 years since we graced the same hallways. Where we first got to know one another.

Pretty neat.

And I am looking forward to next week to once again... get all those things done that I said I would when the kids go to school!

How is your week going?

Odds N Ends

I have all these things swimming around in my brain...
Ever feel like that?

Some important, some not...

1. I watched the last
Jon and Kate plus Eight, I mean Kate plus Eight the other night. So sad.
Real quick- if you don't know the show - a married couple has twins and then sextuplets and lets the cameras follow their life as a TV show on TLC.
Then the couple got divorced so the husband was no longer on the show.
I watched it with the kids years ago.
I am such so sad for them.
For their family, for their broken marriage.
I found myself wishing they would somehow get back together.
I am now brokenhearted for a family I will never meet.
I really have to stop watching TV!

2. Take Heart is having some awesome giveaways right now.
This is big for me to announce a giveaway.
Because I can be so giveaway crazed that I am afraid if I tell someone else, they will enter and they will win instead of me.
Stupid, I know.
I probably need help.
But, Danielle and her family are adopting and are trying to raise funds to do so.
A bunch of awesome businesses donated things and BAM!- awesome giveaways! Check it out!
Ends tonight.

3. Everyone is making out okay at public school.
My two elementary kids are having a great time.

My middle schooler was having some problems at first, but is adjusting better. She has joined field hockey which is what this mama played for 6 years (believe it or not) and of course, I had to run to the store last night late with daughter and sleeping little guy (with ketchup on my shirt I might add) to spend more money on cleats, shinguards, a mouthguard and some other things.

Does anyone know why my kids have to play sports that cost money?
Yeah, I don't know either.

4.I teach my first girls' club meeting tonight. I am super excited. I am going to "set up" my classroom today and do a thousand other things- I'll post pictures later this week.

5. There are several blogs that I have been reading since I started blogging and most of them are in my sidebar.
I really can't remember how I found them, but I did...
One woman, Cathy, has been inspirational to me.
Although we have only emailed each other a handful of times, she has been somewhat of a mentor as well.
She has 5 kids (beautiful) and a husband that she loves very much and she is a homeschooling mom.
She has had cancer on and off for years. And it's back and it's bad.
She is a woman of God and praying.
And I am praying for her as well.
You can share in her journey here and pray for her too.

Nutrisystem- Still the Same...

I'll keep this quick.
I am the same weight.
BUT , I am not discouraged.
I have lost 7 pounds with Nutrisystem!
7 pounds!
And I know there is more to come.
I have been on the excuse train lately- so I will spare you the justifications.
I am starting a couple of new things this week.

I always drink water, but to make sure I am drinking enough, I finally started using this big water bottle Nutrisystem provides to help me keep track of the water I am drinking.
This has made it easier and of course, wondering why I did not do this part sooner.

I was on the treadmill the other night and the husband decided to let me in on some of his wisdom.
He told me that while the walking is good, it would be better if I did some kind of workout dvd.
Isn't he sweet?
And of course, he is probably right.
I am finding it too hard to find the time both day and night to be on the treadmill, so I will still walk on it during the morning, but instead of walking at night, I will find some time during my day to get back to Tony Horton and the beachbody dvds.

As always, I'll keep you posted.

And hey, if you feel so inclined and you remember, pray for me.
