What Am I Doing Wrong?

Now, I am not sure if that is a rhetorical question, because I know what I'm doing wrong, I guess, but hear me out.

I. can't. get. these. kids. to. bed. on. time.

I drag the little ones through the day, making sure they don't nap, waking them at the slightest droopy eye.
And I smile inside, "Tonight's gonna be the night that they get back on their schedule and I have some mommy time".
Doesn't happen.

Yeah, I'll admit towards the end of school we slacked off with proper bedtimes.
But, now that it's summer and we are outside doing things, playing, going to the beach, in pools...

I thought they would sleep like logs.
But they just come up with excuse after excuse.
They need a drink, they want to ask one question and then of course, they need to use the bathroom.
And I get cranky.
Not attractive.
I mean cranky.
And I get loud and they giggle and run to their rooms.

And by the time they go to sleep all I have energy for is ..
yep, you guessed it,
to go to sleep.

This one wants to read books and play with little trinkets at night, but is usually the first one up in the morning and super tired.

And these two, I don't know where to begin.
Yes, I do.
Why do they insist on sleeping together and keeping one another up, when they have bunk beds?

Well, I'll keep plugging along and trying to get these kids to bed on time.

Hey, here's another one for you:
Do you have a tween/teen who wants to go to bed late?

Apparently, it's not cool for them to go to bed at 8:30.
So, she needs to be all up in my grown-up time.
And don't get me wrong, I enjoy the one on one talk time, but is anyone in this house going to go to bed at a decent time?

And what about your kids, are they on a different summer schedule?

I gotta go, I'm tired....

  1. I don't know what to tell you. It's not a problem I ever had, but I was always really strict about bedtimes right from day one. But I do want to say, CUTE pictures!! I hope you're able to get things sorted out soon, so you can get some Mommy time. :)

  2. I always looked at it as, "It's Summer Time Baby". I let my kids stay up when they were young. You will have plenty of time for mommy time when the kids are older. Just enjoy them. Trust me I am going through way to much mommy time now and I don't like it. I would much rather they be with me and not all growing up, working jobs and taking summer class at college.

  3. hi - hopping over from the hop and following too. I KNOW what you mean about bed times. I have tried to keep mine up super late hoping they will sleep later the next morning? Does it work? Nope - they are still up at first light. They are monsters - all of them. I have accepted it and moved on. :)

  4. I wish I had some advice for you. My son was always pretty good about going to bed. They sure are cute though! New follower from the I ♥ Blogging Wednesday Hop! I would ♥ for you to stop by http://aboutamom.com to say hi & return follow!

  5. Oh My Goodness!! You are telling my story here. My daughter (she's 3 today) is ok on most nights. Her problem is she talks to herself...and keeps herself awake. LOL The boys (ages 5, and 3 today) keep each other up. The oldest wants to sleep or "camp" as he puts it, with the younger one. I go through the potty breaks, thirsty, etc. Although I've been getting new ones lately:
    1. My tummy hurts, I think I need to cuddle
    2. I'm too wound up (I don't know where he's going with this one)
    3. There's a Monster under my bed (No, it's your little brother)

The only one I have in school is the oldest so I'm hoping with Kindergarten starts, he'll snap back into a routine. Right now, the only one I have on a routine and goes to bed for me good is my 12 week old son. I wish you much luck on the bedtime routine *sigh*. I can't get it right either. LOL

Anyhoo, I'd love for you to stop by my blog for a visit :) I've been a follower for some time now.
