How Does Your Garden Grow?

Well, our garden is flourishing.

One zucchini I haven't picked yet and hoping for more.

All different types of tomatoes.

And our pepper plant surprised us with four new ones growing.

Our eggplant is blooming away. It is fun to check in on it everyday.

Our first time eating fried green tomatoes- I didn't realize people really ate this- just thought it was a movie, but boy, were they good.

I love zucchini and these were delicious- I can't believe how different food is, when you grow it yourself.

For Dinner: chicken cutlets, our own tomatoes in olive oil, pasta with our fresh parsley, fried zucchini, steamed zucchini and fried green tomatoes! yummo

Jeremiah 29:5 Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens, and eat the fruit of them;

Enjoy this Lord's day.

It's My Birthday!

Well, it was my birthday.... and look at all my treasures.
My cousin made me this beautiful embroidered pillow case! I am afraid to sleep on it- I love it so much, I just keep folding it and putting it away.

My mom totally surprised me and put this amazing box on my front step with the most beautiful Vera Bradley bag and a matching wallet from my aunt! I have my own "vera"- woo hoo! Love it.

This little guy was nice enough to go in my flower pot out front and picked the heads only. And if that wasn't nice enough he snuck into the girls' room and sprayed the flowers with their perfume. This guy covers all bases.

And my girlfriends who know me so well, bought me a white chocolate bar, white chocolate flipz, apples and caramel, a bag of cherries and my FIRST piece of fiestaware- a spoon rest!

The husband picked up an ice cream cake and pistachio flying saucers! Do I need to tell you how much I love pistachio?

Tonight my aunt, my mom, my grandma and my in-laws are coming over for dinner and cake after! And the good news- I don't have to make it. My aunt (really my husband's aunt, but she might as well be mine) is making eggplant parm. Yummo.

I feel so blessed to be around my family anytime we can- it really helps right now.

Enjoy your Saturday!

Friday Follow With The Chatty Mommy...

Well, we are slowly easing into our "normal" lives after losing my brother-in-law last week.
We buried him on Monday and it was one of the hardest things I have ever done, if not the hardest.
I had never been to a burial before.

I spent the day today at the beach with the 3 younger ones and my mother-in-law today. It was a wonderful day.
God is so good and I know I am so thankful I can rely on Him.

On to the follow:

Great Gun Beach, Long Island

We went to Great Gun by boat a little over a week ago.
We had a great time and after that day, I asked my husband if we could sell the house and buy a boat.
I liked it that much.
We had the beach almost to ourselves. It was one of my favorite days ever.
These pictures are in no particular order, but pretty much sum it up. Enjoy.

It's a BLOG Baby Shower for .....

That's right... Mandy from Mandipidy and her husband are due to have their first child, a baby girl, sometime in August!
I love Mandy and think she is going to be a wonderful mom, but felt bad we are so far in distance and thought we should throw her a "blog" shower.
I thought about what I would do if I had a shower for her at my own house.
I would definitely write it on my chalkboard.

And I, would of course, make her a baby banner.

A banner that I would hang up here for the shower and at the end take it down,

so Mandy could use it at her house.
But since Mandy is too far away, I will send her the banner and tell her:
Dear Mandy,
Baby Abigail is so blessed to have you as a mother.
I know you are going to be an awesome parent.
Please show us pictures as soon as she makes her arrival.
The Chatty Mommy

Want to read more baby shower posts? Head over to Gina's blog.

If you want to write your own post and share something with her or give her some parenting advice, use the button below and make sure to stop by Hiya Luv to link up.

We are so excited for you Mandy!

Well, it is over. We buried my brother-in-law, Tom, yesterday. It was very hard, but I am thankful it is over.
Though, I find myself wishing I could touch his face one more time.
I wonder if his mother, my mother-in-law, is feeling the same.
But, I don't ask her.
I am always worried she will cry.
She has been so strong.
I really admire her.

I sent my oldest off to kids bible camp yesterday morning. I am happy for her. Her uncle was her first loss in life and a hard one at that.
She attended her first wake and camp spared her first burial. I am thankful my husband's family wanted her to go to camp. It made it that much easier to send her at this time with their support.
I made her the card above and slipped in some extra spending cash- I hope it gets to her before she leaves camp.

We are getting back to "normal" whatever that is.

I took the kids to the library today and then to the playground.

Funny thing, I won our library's adult book club raffle.
I haven't even entered the books I have read yet. I won from the one raffle I got from signing up.
Every summer I get excited, hoping I win.
And then they called and left a message that I won.
It wasn't as exciting as I thought.

I won a gift basket though, and it is nice. Each week has a different theme.
You know, a grilling basket, a gardening basket, etc...

Want to know which one, I won?
It's called "Take a Hike!"
It has powerade, binoculars, a first aid kit and everything else you need for a hike.

And just another reminder that I need exercise.

We have a winner on the giveaway!
It is Maria!

Maria, I will send your email over to Laura.
And Laura, thanks for a great giveaway!

Stop by tomorrow- I have had something planned for a long time and hopefully me and a bunch of other ladies will have a "blog first", so it should be fun.

On another note, thanks so much for all your prayers and support.
It has brought me comfort.

I have been overwhelmed by the love of friends (both in blogland and on LI) and my family- Thank you!

On My Mind...

It is so sad I can't think about it.
I haven't experienced death much. I have been to a lot of wakes, but no burials.
I have never understood why people do not like hospitals and now I do.
Finding out that your loved one died.
Looking at walls with some chipped paint.
Being hot, so hot.
Crying and people staring at you.
Being put into a room to grieve so people will stop looking at you.
And someone hands you a box of tissues. I threw them out and hope I never see another box like it again.
Planning on telling my kids in a calm manner and crying as I tell them anyway.

It's so hard.
I can still hear my brother-in-law's voice in my head.
I can still hear him tease me- he did this a lot. :)
Looking through pictures, I am thankful for the time we had.

And all those things people say that sound so silly, come to mind,
Life is too short.
Life is but a vapor.
Live every day to the fullest.
Take nothing for granted.
At least we all loved each other.

I am so sad.
Being strong for the kids and the husband is hard and sometimes I cry.
Like driving home from the dentist with my daughter.
He won't see them grow up.

I am praying for my husband.
For my other brother-in-law who lost his best friend and brother in one.
For my aunt who is trying to help as much as she can.
For all the family we are about to see.
For my father-in-law who is speechless.

But, mostly for my mother-in-law who shouldn't have to grieve for her son.
I pray that one day in the future she will have a good day and not be sad.
I know God can do anything and he will get her, us and everyone through this horrible time.
I just have to remind myself.

What Am I Doing Wrong?

Now, I am not sure if that is a rhetorical question, because I know what I'm doing wrong, I guess, but hear me out.

I. can't. get. these. kids. to. bed. on. time.

I drag the little ones through the day, making sure they don't nap, waking them at the slightest droopy eye.
And I smile inside, "Tonight's gonna be the night that they get back on their schedule and I have some mommy time".
Doesn't happen.

Yeah, I'll admit towards the end of school we slacked off with proper bedtimes.
But, now that it's summer and we are outside doing things, playing, going to the beach, in pools...

I thought they would sleep like logs.
But they just come up with excuse after excuse.
They need a drink, they want to ask one question and then of course, they need to use the bathroom.
And I get cranky.
Not attractive.
I mean cranky.
And I get loud and they giggle and run to their rooms.

And by the time they go to sleep all I have energy for is ..
yep, you guessed it,
to go to sleep.

This one wants to read books and play with little trinkets at night, but is usually the first one up in the morning and super tired.

And these two, I don't know where to begin.
Yes, I do.
Why do they insist on sleeping together and keeping one another up, when they have bunk beds?

Well, I'll keep plugging along and trying to get these kids to bed on time.

Hey, here's another one for you:
Do you have a tween/teen who wants to go to bed late?

Apparently, it's not cool for them to go to bed at 8:30.
So, she needs to be all up in my grown-up time.
And don't get me wrong, I enjoy the one on one talk time, but is anyone in this house going to go to bed at a decent time?

And what about your kids, are they on a different summer schedule?

I gotta go, I'm tired....

Along For The Ride {giveaway}

Meet Laura...

Hi there! I'm Laura and I'm along for the ride!

No, literally, I am. Along For the Ride isn't just the name of my blog and handmade shop, but it's how I see my walk with the Lord. I am along for the ride He has planned for me, and what a glorious ride it is!

During the day (and lots of times at night) I spend my time running a residence hall on a college campus. My husband and I live in the hall and our neighbors are 400 loud, silly, messy, wonderful college students.

We have a kitty baby named Jupiter that shares our little apartment.
When I'm not working in the hall, I spend my time with a glue gun in hand, making lovely things for my shop.

My motto is "keep is simple" and I try to make simple, beautiful accessories that aren't too dramatic or fussy, but add just a pretty touch of whimsy.
"Keep it simple" is my motto for my life as well and I blog a lot about the simple, little, imperfect things that make life sweet.

Check out Laura's awesome shop:
I love these my mum hair pins

and this brooch.

I need these bias tape earrings and

this turquoise pendant is my absolute favorite.
