Friday Follow With The Chatty Mommy...

My Week in Review:
I started a new job at a Dental Office doing office work very part time and it was fun to wear nice clothes and be with adults, but humbling not to know how to do things. I will learn.

We started VBS (Vacation Bible School in church)- I will have pictures of my classroom next week. I am teaching the 1st and 2nd grade- a lot of fun and the kids have a lot of energy!

We have been doing sleepovers and friendovers and all sorts of craziness.
Not much cleaning has been done and no major projects. I'll try again next week!

And tomorrow the beach! One of the best reasons to live on Long Island.

And you can find me at Wattlebird with 4 silly questions here.

Also, mentioned this before, but if anyone is interested in blog ad swapping, let me know.

Have a great weekend!

What I Love Wednesday (WILW)

So, I told myself it wouldn't happen, but I am kinda loving Pinterest, you know the relatively new website where you can find the coolest pictures of all kinds of stuff.
I haven't spent a whole lot of time on it, but I have found some neat things.
If you want to check out what I like, click here

And if you need an invitation to join, let me know and I will email you one. In the meantime, here are some cool things I like.

These owl rocks are adorable and look like someone really took their time to paint them. So cute.
I love this and think it would be such a conversation starter in the boys' room. Cars stuck to those metal strips you normally stick kitchen knives to.

This awesome sandwich cookie cutter. So different- what will they think of next?

And I am loving this faucet thingy. It looks like it would make it a lot easier for the little guy to reach and wash his own hands!

Monday Happenings

So, we are going a little slow today and things are not getting done. Things like house cleaning, getting ready for VBS and grocery shopping.

But, putting together a rock band, taking apart the living room, setting up some "friends" to watch and singing "Yes, Lord, Yes, Lord, Yes Yes Lord" have taken precedence.

What are you doing on this sunny Monday?

**News Flash**
I wanted to let you know, that I am taking sponsors for the month of July. They include a sponsor post and/or a giveaway post. To advertise for July is only $5 for the month.

I am also open to ad swapping, so write me if that is something you might be interested in.

Enjoy your Monday!

I am wondering about popularity...
Do we want our kids to have friends?
A couple?
A lot?
Just one best friend?
Should they be friends with the popular kids or off to the side with the "bookish" ones?

What's the best thing for our kids?

I am often quick to tell my daughter that she needs to be with the family, she needs to spend time with us while she tries to make "playdates" or rather "hangs out" with her friends whenever she can.

Isn't this important too?

Or so I am starting to think it is.

I want my daughter to have friends that are like minded.
Friends that know about the Lord or are interested in being closer to Him.
Girls that want to wait to have "boyfriends" and not jump into dating at 13.

At times she goes through things with her friends- someone saying something not so nice or one friend telling another friend something about a third and I turn to her and so want to tell her, it gets better, but it just doesn't.

Girls are difficult and so is having girlfriends. Even for us women.
So, I guess I want her to have friends that she can trust and have her back.
I want her to get along with all different girls and not be upset when some of her friends get together and do not invite her every time.

It doesn't bother her because she has other friends.

I also pray she'll be the one to smile real big at the new girl in school or in youth group or in Sunday school and maybe they will feel welcomed.

And for right now, the best way I can think of to teach her these things- {being friendly/welcoming, positive in her friendships and being a good friend} is by modeling it myself.

What about you?
Got any older kids?
What did you do with them?

Or got any good ideas?
Is popularity important?

I'd like to know.

Saturday Snapshot- Dentist Time

This is the little guy going to the dentist for the second time. He gets very excited to go and gets upset when the other kids have their check-ups and he doesn't get his "turn".

He is getting to be a big boy holding "Mr. Thirsty" by himself.

All done. Now for the prize!

I am linking up to Yellow Songbird's Saturday Snapshot.

Have a great Saturday!

Friday Follow With The Chatty Mommy...

It has been a pretty good week.
Had a game- lost-but had fun and my dad took me and the 3 younger kids out for ice cream after.
Starting to get ready for VBS and this is our first year in a long time having it at night- we are doing a NYC theme which is a lot of fun and easy to decorate for!
We had a missionettes ceremony (think Christian girl scouts) and my daughter's 2 closest friends graduated so it was fun to watch!
I am on a new mission to lose 10 pounds by the end of the month (my birthday). Though I haven't done too much, I will keep you posted on my progress.
Hope you have some great things to do this weekend.
We have a party at the park and not too much else, but we have been getting a lot of rain. Looking forward to some sunshine and beaching next week!

I am linking up to Gussy today and she wants us to talk about playing.
My first thought is the kids and watching them play and how much fun it is, for me to take it in and for them to enjoy themselves and each other.

It seems like just yesterday these 2 weren't in school yet and we had days like this...
I think we are supposed to say what we like to do to play and I "play" softball. And although I have gotten better...

I am still not that great. But I enjoy being part of a team and it is exercise.

If I had my choice I would chose to play on the beach. Maybe even a beach without the kids...
Do they have those?

WILW- Gardening!!!

So, we once again have attempted to garden on the back deck due to deer and other wild animals in our backyard. This time has been a lot more successful so far.

This is my favorite - the zucchini squash flower- I didn't know it was so pretty!!
And I just love zucchini!

My son had some beans from his Sunday School class (they did a lesson on reaping and sowing) and the wonderful woman who helped us plant allowed him to throw them in this pot- imagine his (and my) surprise when they actually came up!

This is my older son's "pizza pot"- he made it on a field trip to an herb farm- it has parsley, oregano and basil in it with a marigold in the middle. They are all the perfect herbs to make spaghetti sauce or pizza sauce, both his favorites.

And we are actually growing a pepper!! I know it doesn't seem like much, but this is huge for me.

This little beauty will hopefully be a eggplant sometime in the near future.

And tomatoes- I am praying for a TON of tomatoes! They are so expensive in the store.

What are you loving in your garden? Or if you don't have one, like I didn't for a decade, than what would you love to have in your garden?

Father's Day

First of all, let me say:

Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there.

Happy Father's Day to my father-in-law for giving me my husband.
Happy Father's Day to my grandfather for giving the kids a Bisabuelo (great grandfather)
Happy Father's Day to my dad for always playing with the kids.
Happy Father's Day to the husband for being such a great Dad to these kids.

And thank you to all 4, cause without them we wouldn't have our four.

We had a great day and a small family BBQ.

Dad got the fire going and we toasted marshmallows on the open flame.

Everyone found sticks and made them just the way they like them, some burnt, some lightly toasted and some people just ate the chocolate plain.

I like them with just marshmallow and the grahams.

Nothing better than eating them in the tree house.

The kids enjoyed digging for worms.

Doesn't get much better than that!

Friday Follow The Chatty Mommy...

This week at a Glance:

We had a softball game on Tuesday and it was awesome- we played in the rain and we lost by 2, but it was one of those games that was neck and neck. Very Exciting and we have another game tonight- a double header- I've never played 2 games in a row- now might be the time for an inhaler.

The kids had their first week off and we are having fun but need a system or it will be lazy messy house people all summer long. We'll do better.

And the biggest news:
::sound horns::
The little guy is in underwear!!! Something he entirely decided on his own because he thinks he runs this place, which we'll let him think, if it means I don't have to spend $35 on diapers every month!

Oh and it was the husband's birthday and the children used probably a whole ream of paper making super cards. And we had cake and a great night!

Green- The New Pink?

Gussy Sews is picking a new inspiration each week to focus on- this week- GREEN!

I am not by any means a "green" person, not really one of my favorite colors and not really much of a treehugger- just being honest.

But apparently according to some of my tween daughter's friends, "green rules".
Yes, a lot of them have traded the pretty pink we loved when they were babies for the originality of green. This is my bathroom wall that the husband let the kids draw on, because we will one day completely renovate it.

My daughter bought her friend these green treasures for her birthday at Justice of course.

Upon closer inspection, I realized my pocketbook, camera bag (yes I still have a point and shoot- don't judge lol) and my favorite suede parsons chairs are all shades of green.

And yes that is "dried sage" by Benjamin Moore on my walls. When we first bought the house, my mother suggested buying a 5 gallon bucket of something neutral, but I fought it and said I could no longer deal with "rental white" and wanted something trendy.
Just asked my husband if we could paint the living room a neutral color to make it look bigger.
What does that tell you?
Always listen to your mama.

These are my new favorite resin glasses that come in all different summer colors from Sams and next to it is the worse possible thing the husband could treat the kids to but of course they love it!

So, I guess there are some cool green things around in my house.
On the topic of living "green", we have been recycling more and returning water bottles for the 5 cent deposit. Go us!

What are you doing to be more "green" and what is your favorite color?
