Fall Fair

The kids' school has a fall fair every year and the kids love it. It is in their small gym and they play games and have goodies. It is small enough where we can let the kids walk around by themselves- this is always exciting to them. We, the parents, get to stand around and chat each other up while handing out dollar bills to the kids. This time I got smart and told the kids to bring their own money! This worked for the kids who could locate their money. *Note to self- stop letting boys hold their own money in their rooms- they lose it and when I need to borrow it- I can't find it!**

Both girls entered the bobbing for apples contest- the 2010 version where each kid has their own bucket so as not to share germs- the germophobic, purel toting mommys were real happy about this!

And unfortunately, both girls lost- they just couldn't press it down far enough- maybe they didn't want to get wet?

And ah, yes, the jello contest- I think this was the first time my daughter ever had jello!

She did pretty good, but wouldn't of it been nice, if her mommy bothered to tie back her hair?

And somehow my daughter guessed how many skittles were in this container! 920!

A fun time was had by all, but do you know what I could do with 920 skittles that won't rot my kids teeth or hurt their stomachs?

Had to quote good ole' Julie Andrews.
Anyone who knows me, knows I do not like cats, hate the rain and am really not interested in flowers.
But some things I do like lately are:

And love CSN and all their crazy things, like a new DVD player that I need or some kitchen bar stools for an island I would love to have!

Creative Kates {giveaway}

CreativeKates' is another one of etsy's amazing shops! I love everything they have!
I asked the shop owner some questions and was surprised to learn that she is in business with her 14 year old daughter, Kate.

Check out what Kate's mom had to say about their etsy shop:

My daughter and I started the shop in June of this year. We started selling our jewelry at local fairs and craft bazaars and then discovered Etsy and have been selling ever since. My daughter is 14 years old and her name is Katie. Katie developed the banner and store name CreativeKates. She also is the photographer and has created all of the jewelry listed except for the vintage repurposed pieces. Katie's favorite piece is the Pink Sherbert Rose Ring (the one above) and mine is the Pink Lemonade Ring (the one below). We enjoy making jewelry and living here on our farm. We have cattle, one dog and a cat.

My daughter and I love this ring and earrings ensemble- beautiful!

And look at this gorgeous repurposed vintage piece. It is truly one of a kind!

And now for the giveaway!!!! Creative Kates has decided to give away this beautiful ring that they so beautifully call the rainy day rose ring! This aqua rose bloom adorns an adjustable vintage style filigree ring. Bloom is about 1.25" x 1.25" wide.

H&A Apothecary- {discount}

I happened upon the most interesting etsy shop the other day and I wanted to share it with you.
H&A Apothecary

H&A Apothecary is an online boutique based out of Utah run by two sisters, Heather and Ashley. I asked them some questions and Ashley answered them.

What made you start an etsy store?
Heather and I have always appreciated lovely and unique items. It started out as something fun we did together with our Mom, but eventually it flourished into our want to create a shop where others can find interesting clothes, home decor, and accessories. So, we created a blog, which eventually turned into our want to expand - which led us to joining Etsy!

We've been brainstorming and researching our shop items and philosophy for around six months. Right now we have vintage items, hand crafted hair clips that double as a flower pin, and vintage clothing items tailored and remastered specifically for H&A Apothecary by the very talented Tiffani from The Vintage Zebra, a fellow Etsy member.

What are your favorite items in your shop right now?

Ashley's favorite item: Raleigh, the vintage long-sleeved, pleated dress - It's so unbelievably comfortable and adorable at the same time. I really love it because any body type could wear it and look amazing.

Heather's Favorite item: Our carefully handcrafted flower pins are my favorite...we have such a large variety that it's hard to pick just one - but the Samantha and Sarah are my favorites.

Do you have any advice for someone wanting to open an etsy shop?
Be patient and go for it!

The Chatty Mommy's personal favorite, the Caroline. Though I am not sure if I would use it as a pin or a hairpiece!
Heather and Ashley are offering 2 buy one get one free flower pins to the first two people who write a reason why they like items in the Apothecary shop. (only valid when buying one pin/clip at full price). So all you have to do is leave a comment and then shop- make sure you are one of the first 2!
They will also take 20% off when you mention The Chatty Mommy at the time of purchase for the next two weeks!
Go and check out H&A Apothecary and maybe even pick up a little something for yourself.

What do you do all day?

I get asked that a lot as a stay at home mom of 4 with only one at home during the day.
Some people asked nicely, just purely curious and others ask in that "you should get a job" kind of voice.

I am a little out of sorts this year- having only one home for the first time in 5 years.

And my babysitting has drastically cut down.

I go to some prayer groups and bring the little guy to a library program and I try to fellowship with women from my church.

I try to keep up with the cleaning- I can't believe how much laundry I have lately. Then today, it dawned on me- in the summer I kept up with the wash, because it was so much less. I would wash a pair of shorts, a shirt and some underwear for a kid. Now it is socks, pants, a shirt, an undershirt and possibly a sweater. It adds up!

I am cooking, but need to re-vamp the recipe situation.

I recently read an article about a junior high school student who started her own online vegan bakery. So cool!

But, what struck me was she is in a college prep school, takes really hard classes and had a ton of extra-curricular things to do and then had her own lucrative business. Yes, I am busy, but why not?

I need to do that. I need to develop some kind of at home business. Which brought me back to my etsy idea. So, today, I am vowing to have my etsy store up and running within the next 2 weeks for all of you to see. I have a lot of ideas of what I would like to make- finding the time to do so has been the issue.

Keep checking back!

Farm Field Trip

The kids go on a lot of the same field trips through the grades and this one is no exception. Although usually over-priced- we always have a great time. They have the best roasted corn and where else can you find a pig race, a maze and the best pumpkins? Harbes farm on Long Island.

The class all puts their pumpkins with their names on the bottom into a wagon that gets pulled through the farm.

A bunny hutch with a "hare" kutz place- tee hee hee. And then in small letters it says, "Hop-ins welcome!" Now that my friends is Chatty Mommy humor!!

This was our guide - I can't believe it but I forgot her name- that never happens to me- let's call her "Jane". Jane is calling out for the pig race.

The pig race and yes- I forgot who won! They were so fast!

They have a track with little pedal cars. The kids loved it.
A great day was had by all.
What about you?
Any field trips planned?

Swag Bucks- I finally get it!

So, about a year ago, I signed up for swag bucks.
I signed up after reading about it on a fellow blogger's site.
I liked the woman a lot and she was explaining how she earned enough gift card money from to buy all her Christmas presents for her 5 kids.
I liked the sound of that and signed up and never did another thing.

Just yesterday, I looked up swag bucks after seeing it on another site.
Now I get it.

Swag bucks is easy.
You can use them as a search engine.
I usually use google, but now I made swag bucks my home page.
Every time you use them as your search engine, you can earn swag bucks.
When you earn enough swag bucks, you can give them in for prizes or gift cards.
I just want gift cards to buy necessities or gifts.
Then there are other ways to earn swag bucks.
You can answer a daily poll question that just takes one click or answer surveys or look at special offers and not have to fill out any info.
You can also shop at certain on-line retailers and earn swag bucks.
For example, my mother-in-law and my mom (great ladies) plan on buying my boys bunk beds for Christmas.
If we buy them from, I can earn 2 swag bucks for every dollar spent. That will add up quick with bunk beds!

There are other ways of getting swag bucks that I have not even checked out yet.
If you have any questions, let me know.
If you are interested in signing up, click here for 30 free swag bucks to start.
